bruising, swelling, mild pain

by Rebecca
(Akron, OH, USA)

I was walking down steps last week, and I accidentally skipped the last one or two. I landed on my knees. My sandles flew off. I was able to put them back on walk to my car, drive the couple of blocks home, and walk up the flight of stairs to my apartment. My bloody scraped knees hurt as bad as my feet. I was still on summer break, so I kept my feet elevated, wrapped, and iced most of the week.

I still have some swelling, a little bruising along my arch, a little bruise on the ball of my feet, and a bruise on the top of my foot along the base of my toes. I have been wearing the shoe my mom got when she broke her foot and buddy taping the toes that have a bruise under them the last couple of days. I keep my foot elevated several hours a day. I have mild pain on my arch, like when your sock gets stuck in your shoe. I just got my insurance back yesterday; I don't have it over the summer.

I wanted to know do I need to go to the doctor? Should I do anything different?

Thanks

Hi Rebecca,
Since there was trauma involved the only way to know if you broke a bone would be to have an xray and of course you would need to see a doctor. I would say in a week's time if the pain is not at least 50 percent improved then a fracture needs to be ruled out.
