foot pain

by Annisa
(Plainfield, NJ, USA)

My right foot is swollen on the top by the nerve in my foot. It is very painful what could cause this pain and swelling?

Hi Annisa,

The two most likely causes would be shoe irritation particularly in an area where the bone on the top of your foot is elevated slightly. In most instances the tendon becomes inflamed. This can happen in spite of the fact that it is not occurring on the other foot.
The other thing that generally brings people in to the office with a swollen painful bump on the top of the foot is a ganglion cyst.
See my article on top of foot pain for more information.
