I had my whole toe nail removed

by Ruth
(maryland)

I had my whole toe nail removed and doctor put a dressing on it and now it is sticking to bedding with blood or something and when I pull it starts bleeding not bad and it hurts what can I do He was mean and I don't want him touching it

Hi Ruth,
Mean or not he has an obligation to follow through with any surgical procedures that he performs.
Here is what I tell my patients when the dressing sticks to the nail bed.
Soak the toe and dressing in a basin of soapy warm, not hot, water for about 20 minutes. That will loosen the dry blood from the bandage. (You can also use hydrogen peroxide, but it might burn). Then gently start to pull the dressing away from the toe. If there is a drop of bleeding that is ok, but if the dressing still sticks, I tell them to come into the office and I remove it for them.
I would suggest you call his office and ask the nurse what you should do. Like I said earlier, whether the doctor likes it or not, this is his responsibility.
