my foot has a burning sensation on the top of the right foot on the outer side of the foot near the ankle, i have had surgery for mortons neuroma about 5 years ago and that was successful, i also suffer with severe back pain, the foot also feels as it it has been bruised, which hasn't occurred.
Hi Irene,
With no history of trauma, my first thought would be a nerve entrapment of the sural nerve. You can try a round of anti-inflammatory medication (assuming you can tolerate it), for maybe a week to ten days; if that does not help, you will need to see a doctor. Marc Mitnick DPM

I am also trying to figure out why I have a burning pain on the top right of my right foot. It is about 2/3 of the way back a bit to the side about 2 inches in front of the ankle bone.
It tends to flare up when I do more walkingthan normal, or when I take medications. It is sometimes accompanied by a general foot swelling (which usually affects both feest equally, though there is not pain in the left foot at all). Sometimes I get it (or it is worsened) by a reaction to certain medications, especially narcotic pain medications.
Does this sound like what you are experiencing?
Hi John, Read my section on midtarsal fault, particularly where I talk about a nerve entrapment that occurs with this condition. See if it does not sound like your problem. Marc Mitnick DPM
