In the recently months I have had to endure awful heel pain

Sometimes the heel pain is experienced after standing in one place for a duration and other times it hurts more after I have been sitting down - resting it. when I wake in the morning I absolutely feel like I should not take another step. I wake to the pain sometimes also. It is more painful and troublesome in my right foot. It is a burning sharp pain. Sometimes the pain shoots up the back of my ankle. Even a foot massage doesn't give any relief in fact it is painful. Please tell me what I should do or should I see a foot doctor. I am a 52 year old female. I was recently diagnosed with Osteoporosis and take the once a month Actonel.
Hi Maureen,
It would seem to me that this pain is not going away on its own and since it is as painful as you state I think the smart move would be to see a podiatrist and start having some treatment on it.
In general terms, musculo-skeletal pain that lasts for longer than three weeks without showing any signs of improvement will generally require medical care as the pain is now on the verge of being classified as chronic.
