left foot pain and swelling near the first 3 toes on top of the foot

I stepped down hard on my foot and felt pain right after i did it now have swelling on top of my foot 3 toes over and back on my foot hurts to move my toes and even to walk ihave had 2 xrays both came back with no breaks now sending me to a specist what will they do to me there do you think i will get a shot or be sent for a mri

Hi Kelly,
If you were my patient, before I offered you a cortisone shot I would want to know what exactly I am injecting. So I would first send you for an MRI to see if there is any soft tissue damage as well as the possibility of a fracture that is not showing up on xray.
If the MRI is normal you might ask to be put in a cast to protect the area and allow it to heal on its own.
If the idea of a cortisone shot upsets you, you can always refuse it.
