No feeling in my big toe.

by Theresa
(San Jose, ca)

Hello,

I am 29 years old. I have lost feeling in my big toe on my left foot.
Nothing I do helps circulation or anything. the toe looks good and moves
when needed but when I touch and wiggle it feels looser than the other?
I was just diagnosed with carple tunnel and some nerve damage in right
hand but assume they are not related?
Help, is this urgent?

Theresa

Hi Theresa,
They are probably not related. Usually numbness in the big toe especially in a young person is due either to local nerve irritation in the toe or perhaps an irritation of one of the nerves that comes out of your spine.
If this condition lasts more than a few weeks I would suggest a visit to a podiatrist who should be able to make a more accurate diagnosis.

wondering the result
by: Anonymous

I have the same numbness in my left toe. I've worn orthotics for about 20 years and only wear new balance sneakers since all other shoes hurt my feet. I've also been wearing a foot 'guard' thing on my other foot (right) due to plantar faciaitis (spelling?). I do sometimes wear it on my left foot to stretch that one out since the plantar faciatis condition seems cronic for me.
