pain and swelling on top of left foot...

I have a knot(i guess) that came up on the top of my left foot. It is extremely painful and there is swelling of my whole foot. When I wear socks and tennis shoes, its like the sock is too tight and leaves a ring at my ankle. I work where I am constantly on my feet..It has gotten so bad I just want to cut it off myself. I cant move my toes dont know why, I can move my big toe but not the other four....I have no insurance and can't afford a drs. visit but iam at my wits end. This is the second time this knot has appeared before was about 3 months ago it was much smaller and went away or so i thought, but it has reared its ugly head bigger and more painful than before..Canu you assist me in what this might be. I do have plantar fascitis in both of my feet, could this have something to do with the other?The pain is a sharp sudden pain it almost brings tears to my eyes, i' only 38 yrs old and this should'nt be happening to me yet.... Hi Stephanie, In reading about your problem, the first thought that came to mind is that this is going to require medical attention and then you mentioned you do not have health insurance. If you can tolerate them, I would take advil or motrin as directed on the package for about 10-14 days, to see if that will reduce the inflammation. Additionally, you may have to invest in a slightly larger shoe in an effort to keep pressure off the lump. Since I do not know what is actually causing this lump or knot, I suspect it may be a ganglion cyst, ultimately you will have to seek medical attention if your symptoms do not improve.
