Pain in bottom of heel and toward arch after soccer

by Michael
(Barnard, Vermont)

My daughter has played baseball and basketball for the last 2 years and has had no problems with her feet. This summer, she has started to play soccer, and she comes back from practice or games with very bad pain in the bottom of her foot (heel) and sometimes from the heel toward the arch. My wife thinks it is plantar fasciatis (sp?).

She wears standard run of the mill Nike children's soccer cleats, and I bought a set of SuperFeet inserts, but today she came back again with very painful feet.

Any ideas?

Hi Michael,
You do not mention your daughter's age, but if she is over ten years old, I would look to an apophysitis as a potential cause of her pain.
If that turns out not to be the case and she just has plantar fasciitis, she may need more than just store bought arch supports.
I think a trip to a podiatrist would be warranted.
