sharp pain in three middle toes without apparent initiating trauma

by Jack
(Baltimore, MD)

Without apparent provocation, I get sharp pain in my middle three toes sometimes lasting as long as 12 seconds. It hurts (about an 8 on 0-10 scale) and it scares me.

I am 6', 280 pounds, 64, hypertensive. Non-smoker, non-drinker

Hi Jack,
The first thing that comes to mind is Morton's neuroma.
Since it is painful and not a normal finding I would suggest you have your foot examined by a qualified podiatrist.

I get the same thing . Pain in middle toes only last 5-10 seconds. Man it hurts like someone stabbed my toe.I think I know which shoes are the problems. I will not be wearing them again!

i have toe pain too!
by: my freakin toes!

I get something similar to this, too. It has been occuring over many years, but is intermitant. I get a searing pain in my toes. sometimes on both feet, just the other day it was just on my left foot. the way i describe it is like there is a hot needle going through the knuckle on my big toe and then straight across the rest of my toes (little toe usually not affected) It's incredibly painful, but only lasts for a few seconds. it might repeat again a few more times in about 5 minutes. then it will be gone for something like 6 months. I can't attribute it to a particular pair of shoes or activity. thank god it only happens now and then. If it were more regular or episodes lasted longer I'd probably be rolling around on the floor screaming (and I have given birth twice pain killer free so I know pain! hehe)

extreem pain in toes
by: Matt

When I walk in the mountains with boots on I get extreme pain in my 3 middle toes on both feet. It is so painful I would gladly have my toes amputated (pain scale 9 / 10). The pain will linger for hours and comes on when I walk up or down hill, not on level ground. Any idea's of what could be causing it - I thought it could be poor blood circulation?
