Several months ago I started having a sharp shooting pain in the top of my foot under my fourth and fifth toes. It happens at least 6 or 7 times a day and doesn't matter whether I am standing, walking, or sitting. It feels like I am being stabbed with a knife. I do have heel spurs and a spur on the top of my foot in the center. I am wondering if it could be a small hairline fracture or maybe caused from the spur.
Hi Toni, Your description is a little confusing as you mention you have pain on the top of your foot under your fourth and fifth toes. (top vs. under?) Anyway, typically knife like pain in that area of the foot usually is from a Morton's neuroma.
Read my section on Morton's neuroma and see if it does not sound like your problem.
There is always the chance that there is a stress fracture or some other problem causing these symptoms. If you are having "knife" like pain then you should really see a foot specialist and get to the bottom of the problem particularly if this problem has been going on for some time now.
