swollen second toe

by Kevin
(Oswego, IL)

My second toe has been red and swollen for about 2 weeks and does not seem to be getting any better. It started out with my big toe and spread to the second toe. The big toe is no longer swollen but I am concerned about the second toe . I did not injure my toes in any way and I do have pain. Any idea what I am dealing with? Do I need to see a doctor for a possible infection?

Kevin

Hi Kevin,
Redness may be a sign of infection but obviously without seeing your foot I cannot make a diagnosis. If you have had this problem for two weeks and are having pain I think you definately need to see a doctor. Aside from an infection, a gout attack comes to mind as a possible cause of your redness and swelling, but gout generally subsides before two weeks.
Let a doctor examine your foot to give you a proper diagnosis.

Hard Lump on Foot
by: David

Been suffering what I thought was a sprain to my right foot for 4 weeks. However, still there & notice a small hard lump (slightly smaller than a ping pong ball) has appeared about 3" down from my big toe. Its not painful in itself, but wondering if this may be related to the pain
