toenail hurts when touched and it is not in grown

toenail hurts when touched even by my sock and it is not in grown

Hi,
Toenails can hurt even though they are not ingrown. A couple of things that may cause the nail too hurt would include a nail that is very thick which would then hurt in a closed shoe. A nail that is too long can get jammed backwards from a shoe and cause pain at the back part of the nail and sometimes there is a possibility of what we call a subungual exostosis or bone spur growing underneath the nail the causes the nail to also hurt in a closed shoe.
See a local podiatrist to find out what is causing your pain.
