toes get hot ,red and burning sensation in the toes

Five years ago I was diagnosed with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension. Sonce then I have been having problems with my toes getting red,hot feeling a burning sensation in the toes. I have had every blood test you can think but cannot find out what the problems is. I tried extra strength tylenol but that doesn't help. So I have been soaking my feet in ice water which does help. Lately though I have noticed my toes are a little bluish in color. Was wondering if you had any idea what the matter could be. Thanks for your help

Hi Diane,
Two thoughts. Some but not all antihypertensive drugs, as a side affect, will cause discoloration in your toes and secondly in situations where there is hypertension, there may also be circulatory problems in the feet and legs. I do not know how old you are or anything else about your medical history, but my best piece of advice would be to mention the discoloration to your doctor and go from there.

Red, Bluish, Burning, Swollen Toes
by: Shelby

I have had this condition of red, bluish, burning and swollen toes only twice. The red marks on my toes and in between my toes look like burns. It seems to get worse when I eat acidic foods, tomatoes being the worst culprit along with oranges. Fibre foods and vegetables seem to help it, but I have no idea what caused it. I am a vegan, and eat very healthy. I am 54 years of age, 5 ft 6 in about 110 lbs. My life style is surrounded by high stress levels, which this condition seems to get worse during these times. I have always had poor circulation but becoming a vegan has helped. Keeping my feet cool also helps but walking and standing only make it worse not better. I am presently having this issue as I write this note. Just when I think I have it under control, it comes back. I am stumped with this condition.

Burning Toes
by: Lisa

I have burning toes, but not sure if it's because I had bonespur surgery on the big and 2nd toe on same foot 3 months ago. It's very hard to wear a closed shoe unless it's super loose in the toebox, otherwise it gets constricted and burns like heck. Have some numbness underneath toes as well. 2nd toe must be healing slow, still blueish but podiatrist says it looks ok. Entire surface of underside of big toe burns in a shoe too, especially at the end of the day. I'm only 42, and healthy. Why is it taking so long to get by toes better? Going to a neurologist next week, praying it's not crps. I am praying it's just part of the healing process but I'd like to submerse my foot in ice water about now. Luckily it doesn't keep me up at night since I'm off my foot and not wearing shoes in bed. sometimes it's like a cold burning sensation, always when my foot is in a shoe, no matter how loose it is. Gets red/purplish at end of day. Bluish in the morning. Rest of foot is fine.

Warm toes/tingle
by: JohnF

My left foot toes are warmer and redder than those corresponding toes on the right foot. I feel the minor tingle/burn sensation on the two toes nearest my big toe. I can measure the temperature difference with a thermometer - about 3 degrees F. Have you any ideas what might cause this? Thanks.

Red toes
by: Carol

I too have red, hot toes, but my vasular surgeon has said it is Raynaud's disease, when he put my feet in cold water there was no pulse in my toes, therefore has to be Raynaud's but from all Literature I've read Raynaud's makes your toes cold..not mine, they feel hot distended and when I touch them it goes white..I am not on hypertension meds..so that rules that out.. I am fine all day but after I've been in bed for a few hours and get up, they are red, sore and hot..I'm a freak I guess..I have told every Doctor I've been to..
